USD 335 is pleased to introduce Chris Appuhn as the new JHES principal. Mr. Appuhn will start his duties on Monday, January 4, when classes resume at JHES. Mr. Appuhn looks forward to getting to know and working with all the JHES students, staff and parents. Although this will be Mr. Appuhn's first administrative position, he has been in a variety of education leadership roles at previous school districts.
Mr. Appuhn is originally from Omaha, NE, where he attended Millard North High School. After high school, Mr. Appuhn attended Butler County Community College where he participated in baseball. After BCCC, he finished his baseball career and Bachelor's Degree at Creighton University. While at Creighton he met his wife Erin, and they recently celebrated 14 years of marriage. They have three amazing children, Audrey who is a 7th grader, Thomas who is a 5th grader and Allison who is in 1st grade.
Previously, Mr. Appuhn worked in Omaha, NE for a parochial school teaching 7th and 8th grade math, reading and religion. In Topeka, Mr. Appuhn worked for 8 years at Pauline South Intermediate School, teaching grades 5 and 6. For the last 4 and a half years, Mr. Appuhn has worked at Landon Middle School, being in charge of the math department, 6th grade team, school improvement team, CI3T team, coaching football, basketball and baseball for Topeka High School, and also teaching mathematics for grades 6-8.
