Miss Higley's 8th grade classes are currently reading "The Miracle Worker" by William Gibson. This is a play depicting the childhood of Helen Keller and her relationship with her teacher, Annie Sullivan. In order to sympathize with Helen, students were asked to spend 45 minutes to an hour of one day blindfolded. Students were challenged to be active during this time and to complete daily activities such as eating a meal, doing simple chores, etc. Lillian Brown is pictured with the story doing gardening work while being blindfolded. Many students who completed the challenge and reflected on their experience, mentioned how incredibly difficult it must have been for young Helen to learn and grow as a deaf, blind, and mute child and that they won't be taking their sense of sight for granted any longer!
