Andrew Wege, senior member of the Jackson Heights FFA Chapter, was selected as the NE District FFA Star Farmer for 2020. Andrew is the son of Kent and Jeanie Wege, Horton. His advisor is Mr. Paul Lierz.
Wege was awarded based on his SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) programs and complete FFA Recordbook. His application was submitted at the NE District FFA Selection Day and the chosen candidates then participated in a personal interview by a panel of judges at Onaga, KS.
Andrew’s SAE programs started with entrepreneurship in diversified livestock production including beef, sheep, and swine operations. His operations have expanded producing animals to market or retain for breeding stock. He has also been involved in Ag Sales and Service, where he is currently employed at the Palmyra Livestock Market. He unloads trailers, sorts, tags, and pens livestock, before working the sale ring during the auction. He works for other area producers, as well.
Wege plans to continue to be involved in production agriculture and livestock marketing after graduation.
As NE District winner, Wege’s application has now been submitted to the Kansas FFA Association as a candidate for State Star Farmer. This award would be presented at the State FFA Convention in Manhattan, KS.
