In forensics tournaments, size isn’t always an advantage—but heart and talent sure are. This past Saturday at the Hiawatha tournament, our "small but scrappy" Jackson Heights Forensics team proved just that by clinching 3rd Place in the Sweepstakes Championship, a prestigious award typically dominated by larger schools.
Against All Odds
The Sweepstakes competition ranks teams based on their top 18 performances—a tall order for smaller schools. But our Cobras didn’t just show up; they shined. With standout performances across the board, the team earned enough points to podium, thanks to a mix of seasoned competitors and newcomers rising to the occasion.
Highlights from Hiawatha:
State Qualifiers: Sabrina Streeter and Duke Condo secured their spots at the State Tournament—a huge accomplishment!
First-Time Medalists: Several students proudly brought home their very first forensics medals.
Historic Win: This marks Mrs. Cormier’s first Sweepstakes plaque as coach—and judging by this team’s drive, it certainly won’t be her last.
A Moment to Celebrate
The photo from the tournament says it all: beaming faces, hard-earned medals, and a trophy that symbolizes what happens when dedication meets opportunity. This team’s success is a testament to the power of preparation, passion, and perseverance.
Next Stop: State!
As Sabrina and Duke prepare for the state tournament, the entire Jackson Heights community rallies behind them—and the entire Forensics team—with pride. Whether it’s their first medal or their fifth, every Cobra has proven that greatness isn’t about the size of the school; it’s about the strength of the team.
Way to go, Cobras!
