This week’s late Strike is partly due to my attendance at the FCCLA State Officers Banquet in Wichita—and I’m so glad I went! The evening was filled with inspiration as outgoing officers passed the torch to new leaders, including our very own Madison Lawson, who officially assumed her role as 1st Vice President of FCCLA for the upcoming year. It was an honor to celebrate with her family and Mrs. McKenzie, listening to the officers’ speeches and feeling the excitement for what lies ahead. Madison may be nervous as she prepares to deliver a major speech tomorrow night while campaigning for a national officer position, but I have no doubt she’ll shine. You’ve got this, Maddie!

Before the banquet, I arrived early and witnessed the lively chaos of students pouring into the hotel, hauling competition materials and prepping for the days ahead. This year, we brought nine outstanding entries to state, and I have high hopes for every one. Our students have poured dedication into their projects, and their hard work deserves recognition.

One story stands out: Danny Bottom and our three-year steak dinner bet. If he makes nationals, I owe him a 45-day dry-aged ribeye—trimmed, wet-aged, and reverse-seared to 130°F perfection. (The highest praise I’ve received came from Bob Lawson of Ohio, who ranked it the second-best steak he’s ever eaten—only because he hopes to someday taste one even better.) Danny has yet to claim his prize, but this could be his year. Win or lose, I’m incredibly proud of him and the entire FCCLA team. Their effort, growth, and sportsmanship are what truly matter.

A huge thank you to Mrs. McKenzie for her leadership and dedication. No matter Tuesday’s results, every student has already achieved something remarkable. We can’t wait to celebrate their successes!

Stay tuned for competition updates—and maybe a steak dinner announcement!
