Jackson Heights Art Students Shine at Annual First Friday Exhibition
The Jackson Heights Art Program proudly provides students with an incredible opportunity to showcase their artwork in a professional gallery setting every year during the First Friday Artwalk in Topeka, Kansas. This annual exhibition, held on the first Friday of every February, allows budding artists to see their work displayed alongside other student artists as well as professional artists from northeast Kansas.
A Prestigious Opportunity for Young Artists
The First Friday Artwalk is a beloved tradition in Topeka, where galleries and museums throughout the city open their doors to the public, unveiling new exhibitions that often feature live music, refreshments, and an engaging community atmosphere. For Jackson Heights students, this exhibition is more than just a chance to display their work—it is a stepping stone into the larger art world, offering them real-world experience in gallery exhibitions and professional presentation.
A Month-Long Exhibition
While the opening night on First Friday is a special occasion, the student artwork remains on display for the entire month of February. The exhibit has been up for a few weeks already but will continue for two more weeks, giving visitors multiple opportunities to experience the talent of Jackson Heights students. This extended exhibition ensures that their work gains exposure and recognition beyond just opening night, giving students a sense of pride and accomplishment in seeing their pieces in a formal gallery setting. Don't miss your chance to see it!
Building Artistic Confidence and Community Engagement
For many students, participating in this event is a transformative experience. It allows them to:
Gain confidence in their creative abilities.
Receive feedback from peers, professional artists, and art enthusiasts.
Engage with the local art community, learning from experienced artists and curators.
Enhance their portfolios, an important step for those considering further education or careers in art and design.
A Teacher’s Impact on the Program
Mr. Jason Hanna, the Jackson Heights Art Teacher, has only been with the school for two years, but his career in art has brought a different level of experience to the program that we greatly appreciate. His dedication and expertise shine through in the work showcased in Topeka, reflecting a commitment to artistic growth and excellence. His influence has elevated the program, providing students with new techniques, perspectives, and opportunities to develop their talents.
A Celebration of Artistic Talent
The Jackson Heights Art Program remains committed to fostering a love for the arts and providing students with meaningful opportunities to grow. By participating in the First Friday Artwalk, our students are not only celebrating their achievements but also contributing to the vibrant art scene in northeast Kansas. We encourage all members of the community to attend this fantastic event, support our young artists, and experience the power of student creativity firsthand.
