In a blowout game against the Jefferson County North (JCN) Chargers, the Cobras end their regular season by clinching both district and league championships. The Jackson Heights High School football team has absolutely dominated this year, ending regular season play with an undefeated record and a jaw-dropping 52-0 victory against JCN. This incredible win has energized Cobra fans, and set the stage for an epic run to the playoffs. From the first whistle to the final play, the Cobras fought on the field, while maintaining their focus and determination, to gain the victory.
JHHS Journalism staffer Danny Bottom had the opportunity to ask Coach Caleb Wick a few questions about what Coach Wick calls an “unforgettable season.” When asked about the last time Jackson Heights was undefeated, Coach Wick said, "This is the first time in my tenure we have the opportunity to finish the regular season undefeated. I believe the last time Heights was able to do this was during the '03 season." Coach Wick also highlighted some of the defining moments of the season. "Honestly, the first defining moment in the season was week 1 against Riverside. We went into halftime with a 6-0 lead and you could tell the boys were a little shell-shocked. We were able to score to make it 12-0 early in the 3rd quarter, but Riverside came back and scored to make it 12-7. In the huddle, we told the boys that we are going to need a great 4th quarter, and they responded; and we ended up winning the ball game 35-7. There will be more defining moments later in the season. We as a coaching staff are really looking forward to seeing how the boys respond when adversity hits again."

As the Cobras prepare for the post-season, the excitement is through the roof. The entire Jackson Heights community is rallying behind the team, ready to cheer them on. When asked how the team is maintaining their energy moving into the postseason, Coach Wick explained, "The energy starts in practice and is influenced by the leaders on the team. So far this year, we have been able to keep a high level of energy during practice and games. We all know the games are going to get tougher as the season moves on, and we are actively working on this in practice to keep the energy at a high level."
