Jackson Heights Junior Ties Second Oldest School Record in the 200-Meter Dash
We are thrilled to finally announce that Jackson Heights Junior, Kyson Proffitt, has tied the second oldest track record in school history! During the state track meet this past summer, Kyson ran an impressive 200-meter dash with a time of 22.70 seconds, matching the record set by Charlie Woltje back in 1972. This remarkable achievement is a testament to Kyson's hard work, dedication, and athleticism.
The 200-meter dash record, which had stood for over 50 years, is one of the proudest moments in our school's athletic history. Charlie Woltje, set the original record in 1972 during his memorable track season. Since then, no one has been able to match his speed—until now.
Due to the timing of the state meet, we had to wait until the new school year to officially acknowledge Kyson's accomplishment and add his name to the record board. This recognition is more than just an update to our records; it’s a celebration of the spirit and determination that Kyson embodies, qualities that echo the legacy of our past athletes.
Kyson and Charlie have spoken several times since the meet, with Charlie offering nothing but words of encouragement and support. It is heartening to see two generations of Jackson Heights athletes come together, sharing in their love for the sport and celebrating this historic achievement. Charlie, who also holds the school record for the 100-meter dash set in 1970—the longest-standing record in the school's history—has been an inspiration for Kyson, as he now sets his sights on this milestone.
The 100-meter record, set by Charlie in the very first year the school opened, remains one of the most revered records at Jackson Heights. However, with Kyson's recent success and his evident drive, there is excitement in the air about the possibility of another record being challenged.
Congratulations to Kyson Proffitt for this incredible achievement! We are proud to see his name beside Charlie Woltje's on the record board, symbolizing both the preservation of our school’s rich athletic heritage and the promise of a bright future ahead. We look forward to watching Kyson continue to push his limits and aim for new heights.
Go Cobras!
