Jackson Heights Students Make a Lasting Impression with Heartfelt Gesture

Jackson Heights High School is a special place where students not only strive for academic excellence but also demonstrate a strong sense of community and compassion. This week, a group of Jackson Heights Cobras exemplified these qualities in an exceptional way.

As part of their Human Growth and Development class, students Jordyn Banaka, Madeline Jones, Sabrina Streeter, and Ashlyn Brucken were tasked with creating a small community service project for "Friendly Friday." What they delivered went far beyond expectations, reflecting their genuine care for others.

The group decided to create welcome baskets for the new staff members at Jackson Heights. This thoughtful gesture wasn’t just a class assignment—it was a meaningful way to make the newcomers feel appreciated and valued as they began their journey at the school. The students generously spent their own hard-earned money to curate these beautiful, personalized baskets, each filled with thoughtful items that any new staff member would appreciate.

But the welcome baskets were more than just a collection of items. The students also took the time to write heartfelt, hand-written notes to accompany each basket. These notes expressed warm welcomes and kind words, adding a personal touch that truly made a difference. To top it off, Jordyn, Madeline, Sabrina, and Ashlyn personally delivered the baskets, greeting each new staff member with a friendly face and a warm smile.

Their actions helped conclude the first week for the new staff on a positive and uplifting note, fostering a sense of belonging and community that is so integral to the spirit of Jackson Heights.

We are incredibly proud of Jordyn, Madeline, Sabrina, and Ashlyn for their generosity, thoughtfulness, and commitment to making Jackson Heights a welcoming place for everyone. Their actions embody the true spirit of the Cobra community—one that is caring, inclusive, and always looking out for one another.

Jackson Heights High School is indeed a special place to be, and these students' actions are a perfect example of why. Thank you, Jordyn, Madeline, Sabrina, and Ashlyn, for your kindness and for making our school community even stronger!
