Jackson Heights Middle School Shines at NEKL Track Meet

Jackson Heights Middle School’s track and field team showcased exceptional talent and teamwork at the recent Northeast Kansas League (NEKL) track meet, leaving a mark with record-breaking performances and top placements across a range of events.

A standout moment for the Cobras came in the boys' triple jump where Jackson Heights athletes swept the podium. Eighth-graders Sawyer Shupe, Luke Schierling, and Kolby Bowhay took first, second, and third places respectively. Sawyer’s jump not only earned him the gold but also set a new league record, highlighting the depth of talent in our track program.

The 8th grade boys' 800 Medley relay team consisting of Luke Schierling, Gage Holiday, Will Kuhnert, and Kolby Bowhay delivered a thrilling performance, clinching first place and breaking the league record for the event. Their victory was a testament to their speed, coordination, and hard training.

Our 8th grade girls also demonstrated strong teamwork in the 800 Medley relay, with Sabrina Streeter, Makayla Stidman, LillyAnn Wichman, and Ashlyn Brucken finishing in a commendable third place. Their efforts contributed significantly to the overall team spirit and success.

Individual performances were equally impressive. Tatum Eisenbarth, a 7th grader, showed her prowess by winning the 100m dash and the 400m, showcasing her versatility and emerging as a promising young athlete. Sabrina Streeter excelled in hurdles and long jump, capturing first in the 100m hurdles and second in the long jump.

Among the boys, Will Kuhnert soared to second place in the high jump, while Devyn Montgomery showcased his strength in the shot put, securing second place. Our younger competitors also shone brightly, with Becca Amon grabbing first in the long jump for 7th graders, underscoring the breadth of talent across different age groups.

These achievements are a clear indication of the strength of our middle school track program and the dedication of our athletes and coaches. The 7th and 8th grade boys combined efforts earned them a well-deserved second place overall in the league, a proud moment for the entire Cobra community.

We look forward to building on these successes and continuing to develop the skills and competitive spirit of all our young athletes. Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and remarkable achievements. Go Cobras!
